Thoughts on Z going for an overseas camp

Based on the packing list, he put his luggage together. He had seemed unsure initially because he told us his roommate’s mom was going too.

Till the day before, we did not talk about how he could cope if he missed home. You see, we were planning to go a day later to surprise him. We always knew but he never knew or suspected. We did not even pack our luggage till he had left and that left us with only a short night to pack.

When we sent him off at the airport, he seemed subtle and nervous. His roommate looked equally serious. As we waved them off at the departure gate and saw the updates through the club’s Facebook, I could tell Z was in his element.

On one part, I felt proud that he was such an independent child. On the other part, I was maybe a little bummed that he did not miss us. Overall, still glad that he was either so strong or happy-go-lucky.
